ABOUT BARBARY
Where chosen family builds lasting growth.
Barbary Collective brings together trusted partners across business, creative, and community sectors - helping clients not only grow, but grow together. We don’t just advise; we connect, creating partnerships rooted in identity, clarity, and care.
This is business development for mission-driven leaders: structure with empathy, clarity for visionaries carrying responsibility, and true partnership to ease the isolation of leadership.
We’re more than consultants, we’re partners. We co-create solutions instead of handing you templates. While we specialize in LGBTQ+ founders and organizations, we serve anyone leading with purpose. Our promise: structure with care, strategy with connection, and growth without compromise.
We’ve seen what works, what breaks, and what often goes unseen. Through tailored consulting, strategic guidance, and collaboration, we help clients grow with clarity, care, and conviction.
This is how experience becomes impact. This is how leaders grow stronger, together.

Barbary's Story
Barbary Collective was born out of both experience and intention. It was founded as a way to share hard-earned experience with those building something of their own.
After nearly two decades across government, campaigns, nonprofit leadership, and global consulting, founder Timothy Merritt had worked at the highest levels of public life. He led operations, scaled systems, helped raise millions, and designed nationally significant moments for White House principals and grassroots movements alike. Along the way, he saw firsthand how vision becomes reality, and how often it can get lost in the pressure and pace of growth.
Barbary Collective was founded to share that experience with founders, creatives, and community-centered leaders building with purpose, often with fewer resources than they deserve. We exist to bridge strategy and soul, rooted in the belief that business is a story, leadership can be collaborative, and growth can reflect our communities.
The name comes from Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City, where Barbary Lane is a haven of chosen family. That spirit runs through our work: strategy grounded in community, growth anchored in identity, and systems built to reflect your values.
Barbary Collective isn’t just a company. It’s a response to a world that too often asks queer people, mission-driven founders, and small teams to shrink themselves to fit inside systems never built for them.
We’re building something better. One relationship, one strategy, one breakthrough at a time.
